Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with the Olubadan of Ibadan, Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan, Oyo State, as political tensions continue to rise in the state.
The meeting, which lasted about 30 minutes, comes amid growing controversies involving the state’s political leadership and the traditional institution. Fayose had earlier alleged that Governor Seyi Makinde was plotting to dethrone the monarch, a claim that has further heightened concerns within the state’s political landscape.
There have also been reports of a possible impeachment move against Makinde by the Oyo State House of Assembly, with suggestions that the traditional institution may be entangled in the unfolding developments. While details remain unclear, the situation has sparked widespread speculation and debate among political observers.
Speaking briefly to journalists before the meeting, Fayose said his visit was aimed at showing solidarity with the traditional institution. He hinted that more details surrounding the controversy would soon emerge.
“I am in Ibadan to identify with the traditional institution. The truth about the whole saga will soon be revealed,” he said.
Although the outcome of the meeting was not disclosed, the engagement is seen as significant given Fayose’s vocal stance on the matter and his influence in regional politics. Observers say the visit could signal deeper consultations or alignments as events continue to unfold in Oyo State.
The development underscores the sensitive relationship between political authorities and traditional rulers, particularly in times of heightened tension. Stakeholders are expected to closely monitor the situation as it evolves, with implications for governance and stability in the state.
