Senator Ali Ndume has said Nigeria can overcome its security challenges within six months if the Federal Government demonstrates strong political will and takes decisive action.
Ndume, who represents Borno South, made the assertion during an interview, stressing that addressing insecurity requires commitment rather than rhetoric. According to him, the country has the capacity to defeat insurgency and banditry within a short period if the right measures are implemented.
“It is not about complaining. If the President and the Federal Government are serious about this, we can end this thing in six months. All we need is to train our soldiers, equip them, arm them very well, and then motivate them,” he said.
The lawmaker attributed the persistence of insecurity to gaps in military preparedness and insufficient support for security personnel. He noted that despite ongoing efforts, attacks by insurgents and bandits continue to expose weaknesses in operations.
Ndume also expressed concern over the repeated loss of military personnel, including senior officers, warning that such incidents highlight deeper structural and operational challenges within the security system.
He called on the Federal Government to prioritise adequate funding for the armed forces, improve the welfare of soldiers, and ensure they are properly equipped to handle evolving threats.
According to him, a well-trained, motivated, and adequately supported military would be more effective in confronting insecurity across the country.
His comments add to ongoing national conversations about how best to tackle insecurity, as authorities continue efforts to restore stability in affected regions.
