Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, have successfully rescued 14 victims abducted by sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways.

The operation, confirmed on Tuesday by Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, followed a series of intelligence-led interventions and coordinated tactical strikes targeting criminal networks operating within the maritime corridor.

According to the police, the rescue mission was driven by credible intelligence, which enabled joint security operatives to intensify surveillance across identified hotspots. This strategic approach ultimately led to the safe recovery of all 14 victims without any reported injuries.

Placid noted that the victims are currently undergoing medical checks and debriefing procedures. He added that they would be reunited with their families after the completion of necessary evaluations.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the joint efforts of the security agencies, describing the successful operation as a clear demonstration of effective inter-agency collaboration and intelligence-driven policing.

He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to sustaining pressure on criminal elements, particularly those operating along the nation’s waterways, which have witnessed rising incidents of piracy and kidnapping.

Authorities also assured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for the abduction. The police emphasized that all perpetrators would be brought to justice as part of broader measures to enhance security and safeguard lives and property in the region.

The Calabar–Oron waterways, a vital transport and economic route in southern Nigeria, have in recent times become a hotspot for maritime crime, prompting increased security operations by law enforcement agencies.
