Gunmen who abducted children from an orphanage in Kogi State have reportedly demanded a ransom of N150 million for their release, heightening concerns over rising insecurity in parts of the country.

The incident occurred after armed attackers invaded the facility and whisked away several pupils, causing panic among residents and school authorities. Security agencies were later deployed to the area to track the kidnappers and rescue the victims.

According to reports, the abductors contacted the victims’ families and demanded the sum of N150 million before any negotiation for their release could begin. Efforts are currently ongoing by security operatives and local vigilante groups to secure the safe return of the children.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact number of children still in captivity, but rescue operations are said to be active as pressure mounts on security agencies to act swiftly.

Kidnapping for ransom has remained a persistent security challenge in parts of Nigeria, with criminal groups increasingly targeting schools, travellers, and rural communities.

Meanwhile, officials are urging residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
