Former Nigeria international and ex-Super Eagles striker, Michael Eneramo, has died after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna State.
Reports indicate that the 40-year-old forward slumped while featuring in a local game at the Angwan Yelwa pitch in the Television area of Kaduna. He was said to have come on as a second-half substitute before suddenly collapsing on the field without any physical contact.
Eyewitnesses reported that immediate attempts were made to revive him on the pitch before he was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
“He slumped and died right on the spot. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the hospital,” a source told SCORENigeria.
Eneramo enjoyed a notable football career, playing for clubs including Espérance Sportive de Tunis, Beşiktaş J.K., and Lobi Stars F.C.. He was widely regarded for his physical presence and goal-scoring ability during his active years.
After retiring from professional football, he was reportedly involved in grassroots development and was running a football academy aimed at nurturing young talents.
The news of his death has sparked tributes from across the football community. The official handle of the Super Eagles paid homage to the late striker, sharing his image with a simple message: “Rest in peace Michael.”
His sudden passing has left fans, former teammates, and the wider Nigerian football community in shock, with many describing him as a dedicated professional who contributed significantly to Nigerian football during his playing career.
