Yayi Threatens Legal Action Over Claims He is Ekiti Indigene
Ogun APC governorship candidate Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has given two individuals 24 hours to provide evidence for claims that he is an indigene of Ekiti State or face legal action.
Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has threatened to institute legal action against two individuals over claims that he is an indigene of Ekiti State.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate and is the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Ogun State, gave Hon Abayomi Hunye and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello 24 hours to provide evidence supporting the claims or face lawsuits.
According to a statement issued by his media adviser, Kayode Odunaro, Hunye, a suspended APC member from Tube in Ipokia Local Government Area, and Marcus-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party made the claims during separate interviews on Channels Television programmes.
Adeola described the allegations as false and libellous, demanding that both individuals produce evidence of his state of origin.
He accused one of them of claiming that he was from Ekiti but being unable to identify the specific location when questioned. He also alleged that the other made claims concerning the locations of his parents’ graves in an attempt to support the allegation.
Adeola said similar claims about his origin had previously been used as political propaganda against his emergence as the senator representing Ogun West.
The controversy has resurfaced ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, with Adeola emerging as the APC candidate.
Meanwhile, traditional leaders in Kemta, Ogun State, have affirmed Adeola’s ancestral ties to the community. The Oluwo of Kemta and Baaye of Egbaland, Chief Abayomi Rotimi, recently described Yayi as a son of the community and dismissed reports that the traditional institution had been shut over his relationship with the area.
