Wike, Okpebholo, Oshiomhole Bid Farewell as Ex-Edo PDP Chairman Orbih Is Buried in Ogbona
Political leaders gathered in Edo State to honour Dan Orbih, former PDP chairman, at his funeral in Ogbona on Saturday.
Prominent political figures, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo and former governor Adams Oshiomhole, have paid their final respects to Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State.
Orbih was laid to rest in his hometown of Ogbona, Etsako Central Local Government Area, on Saturday, October 10, 2026, following a funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
The 64-year-old politician died on August 31, 2026. He served as Edo PDP chairman and later as the party’s National Vice Chairman for the South-South. Until his death, he was also chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
Okpebholo attended the funeral Mass and described Orbih’s death as a painful reminder of life’s uncertainty. He urged Nigerians, particularly those in public office, to live selflessly and use their positions to improve the lives of others.
The governor recalled celebrating Orbih’s birthday at the same church and expressed sadness that he had returned to the venue for his funeral.
Wike, who described Orbih as a close friend and political ally, also paid tribute to the deceased. He said seeing his friend’s remains had brought home the reality of his loss and called for prayers and comfort for the bereaved family.
The FCT minister thanked Okpebholo for supporting Orbih’s family during the funeral arrangements and dismissed suggestions of a disagreement between them, saying their relationship remained cordial.
Oshiomhole, a former Edo governor and longtime friend of Orbih, had earlier described the deceased as a brother and friend of more than four decades. He praised Orbih’s commitment to his community and his contributions to political life in Edo State.
Other political associates and community leaders also paid tribute, remembering Orbih as a courageous politician, generous benefactor and influential figure in the state’s political development.
Orbih’s funeral ceremonies began in Abuja on Wednesday, October 7, with a Requiem Mass and a night of tributes before his remains were transported to Edo State.
A thanksgiving Mass is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ogbona, concluding the funeral programme.
His death has drawn condolences from political leaders across party lines, reflecting relationships and influence that extended beyond partisan divisions.
