Why Obi’s Supporters, Security Didn’t Retaliate — OK Movement
The OK Movement has explained that security personnel and supporters attached to Peter Obi refrained from retaliating during a recent convoy blockade in Benue State to prevent loss of life and maintain peaceful democratic engagement.
The OK Movement, a political platform supporting Peter Obi, has explained that security personnel and supporters attached to the former presidential candidate refrained from retaliating during a recent blockade of his convoy in Benue State to prevent violent escalation and safeguard lives.
The clarification follows an incident where Obi’s convoy was obstructed by a group of youths while traveling to Yelwata to condole with families affected by local attacks.
The group noted that the decision not to engage the armed perpetrators was a deliberate, professional, and tactical measure aimed at preserving peace and avoiding bloodshed.
The movement affirmed that its commitment to non-violent political participation should not be interpreted as weakness or surrender to political intimidation.
It held the government accountable for ensuring the constitutional rights, personal safety, and freedom of movement of all political actors across the country.
Meanwhile, the Benue State Police Command confirmed that its operatives deployed to secure Obi's visit took tactical steps to manage the situation and escort him safely back to the airport.
The police command added that an investigation is currently underway to identify those responsible for orchestrating the blockade and establish the circumstances surrounding the disruption.
