Warrington, Wakefield Set for Historic Super League Grand Final
Warrington Wolves and Wakefield Trinity will contest the 2026 Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford, with both clubs seeking their first title and a place in a new chapter of the competition’s history.
Warrington Wolves and Wakefield Trinity will meet in the 2026 Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday, with both clubs seeking to win the competition for the first time.
The final marks the first time that neither Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhinos nor St Helens has featured in the title decider. It also guarantees a new name on the Super League trophy, with only five clubs having previously won the competition.
Warrington reached the final after defeating Leeds in a closely contested semi-final, while Wakefield secured their first-ever Grand Final appearance with a 33-6 victory over reigning champions Wigan.
The teams finished third and fourth respectively during the regular season and have already met twice in 2026. Warrington won the earlier encounter 27-16 before Wakefield claimed a 25-18 victory in their second meeting.
Sky Sports pundits offered differing views on the outcome. Sam Tomkins backed Warrington, while Jon Wilkin, Megan Wellens and Jenna Brooks selected Wakefield. Barrie McDermott described the contest as difficult to call, highlighting the contrasting journeys of both clubs.
Warrington have not won the Super League title and are seeking to end a 71-year wait for a major championship. Wakefield, meanwhile, have risen rapidly after playing in the Championship in 2024 and returning to Super League in 2025.
The final will also feature a family storyline involving Wakefield player Jack Sinfield and his father, Sir Kevin Sinfield, who is due to deliver the match ball before kick-off.
The match is scheduled for 6pm at Old Trafford, with coverage beginning on Sky Sports at 5pm.
