WAFCON 2026: Cameroon Thrash Malawi to Win First-Ever Title
Cameroon defeated Malawi 3-0 to claim their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in Rabat.
Cameroon have won their first-ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title after defeating Malawi 3-0 in the 2026 final in Rabat, Morocco, on Sunday.
The Indomitable Lionesses produced a dominant performance against the tournament debutants, scoring all three goals in a commanding first half.
Marie Ngah Manga opened the scoring for Cameroon before Naomi Eto doubled the advantage with an impressive swivelling finish.
Ngah Manga then completed her brace before the interval, giving Cameroon a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into half-time.
Malawi struggled to cope with Cameroon’s attacking pressure and were unable to mount a comeback after the break as the Lionesses controlled the game to secure the historic victory.
The triumph marks a significant milestone for Cameroon, who had previously reached the WAFCON final three times without winning the title.
Their most recent final appearance before Sunday came in 2016, when they lost 1-0 to Nigeria.
Cameroon had also finished runners-up in the 1991 and 2004 editions, making their 2026 success the culmination of several decades of near misses.
For Malawi, the final represented a historic achievement despite the defeat. The team had reached the championship match in their first appearance in the competition, making them the first debutants to advance to the WAFCON final.
Cameroon’s emphatic victory also underlined their growth as a major force in women’s African football and ended their long wait for continental glory.
Ngah Manga emerged as one of the key figures in the final, scoring twice to help her country secure the landmark triumph.
The victory sparked celebrations among the Cameroonian delegation and supporters in Rabat as the Indomitable Lionesses finally lifted the WAFCON trophy after years of coming close.
The 3-0 victory will go down as one of the most important results in Cameroon’s women’s football history, while Malawi can look back on their remarkable run to the final as a breakthrough moment for the country.
