W’Cup Qualifiers: Junior Female Yellow Greens Arrive in Tanzania

Nigeria’s U-19 women’s cricket team, the Junior Female Yellow Greens, have arrived in Tanzania ahead of the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier.

The tournament is scheduled to take place in Dar es Salaam from August 30 to September 5, with Nigeria aiming to secure a place at next year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh and Nepal.

The team, led by coaches Sarah Bakhita and Theophilus Ibodeme, completed their final training session at the UNILAG Cricket Oval on Wednesday before departing Nigeria on Thursday.

The squad is also being supported by the Nigeria Cricket Federation’s high-performance manager.

The NCF named a 14-player squad last week, combining members of the team that represented Nigeria at the 2025 U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia with emerging talents who progressed through the national U-17 championships.

Nigeria made history at the 2025 tournament by reaching sixth position, and the experience gained from that campaign is expected to boost the team’s preparations for the African qualifier.

The Junior Female Yellow Greens will now look to build on that progress and secure another appearance on the global stage.

With the African qualifier serving as the pathway to next year’s World Cup, Nigeria will need consistent performances throughout the tournament in Dar es Salaam to achieve its qualification objective.
