Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has revealed that he once earned at least N10 million monthly from an akara and bread business before entering politics.

Eno made the disclosure during the state’s monthly covenant prayer service, where he reflected on his entrepreneurial journey.

The governor said he started the business by selling akara and bread, which he packaged as what he called “Akara Burger”.

According to him, the business later expanded into a coffee shop, attracting customers, particularly workers heading to ExxonMobil in the mornings.

Eno said the business generated not less than N10 million every month at the time.

He explained that customers would buy the akara and bread combination and also take coffee before heading to work.

The governor said the shop still exists, highlighting the business as part of his experience before his entry into politics.

His disclosure comes months after First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s comments encouraging Nigerians to consider small-scale businesses, including akara selling, as a means of improving livelihoods.

The First Lady’s remarks had generated public debate, with reactions focusing on the challenges facing small businesses and the rising cost of living.

Eno’s account has added his personal experience to the discussion, as he highlighted how a small food business formed part of his entrepreneurial journey before he became governor.
