Umahi Inaugurates APC Infrastructure Campaign Team Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has inaugurated the infrastructure, mobilisation and sensitisation team of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Umahi, who serves as Deputy Director-General of the directorate, inaugurated the team at its maiden meeting in Abuja on Thursday, charging members to strengthen coordination and public communication on infrastructure projects executed by the Federal Government.

He said the team’s primary responsibility was to identify, document, compile and publicise infrastructure projects being implemented by ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) across the country.

Although the Federal Ministry of Works accounts for a significant share of the Federal Government’s infrastructure investments, Umahi said the exercise must cover projects undertaken by other MDAs to provide a comprehensive picture of developments across the six geopolitical zones.

He directed the Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement for the six geopolitical zones, who have been appointed as zonal coordinators, alongside other members and the directorate’s secretary, to work together in identifying and documenting relevant projects within their respective areas.

The minister said the initiative was designed to provide a broader account of infrastructure investments and the development activities of President Bola Tinubu’s administration under the Renewed Hope agenda.

He clarified that existing publicity activities by the Federal Ministry of Works and the presidential community engagement aides would continue, while the new office would establish a wider framework for coordinating information on infrastructure projects at zonal, subnational and national levels.

Umahi stressed that accurate documentation and effective communication were essential to making information about public infrastructure investments accessible to Nigerians.

He described infrastructure development as a key driver of economic growth and national integration, noting that investments in roads and other public facilities could connect communities, stimulate economic activities and create opportunities across different sectors.

The minister also highlighted the Federal Government’s adoption of continuous reinforced concrete pavement technology in road construction, saying it could reduce dependence on imported bitumen and encourage the use of local resources and expertise.

According to him, the technology could support domestic economic activity, reduce foreign exchange demand associated with imported construction materials and promote more durable roads.

Umahi urged members of the team to demonstrate professionalism, diligence and cooperation in carrying out their assignments, adding that effective public sensitisation would be necessary to communicate the impact of infrastructure projects across the country.

The inauguration forms part of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, as the party establishes structures to coordinate its campaign activities and communicate the administration’s record to voters.
