UEFA Introduces Debut Patches for Champions League First-Timers
UEFA will introduce special sleeve patches for players making their Champions League debuts during the 2026/27 season, with the memorabilia later turned into unique Topps trading cards.
UEFA has introduced a special “Debut Patch” for players making their first-ever appearance in the UEFA Champions League during the 2026/27 season.
The small patch, which will be placed on the sleeve of eligible players’ shirts, will feature the word “debut” alongside the competition’s iconic starball logo.
The initiative is part of UEFA’s expanded partnership with sports merchandise company Fanatics and its trading card brand, Topps.
After each player’s debut match, the patch will be removed from the jersey and sent to Topps.
Topps will then incorporate the match-worn patch into a unique, one-of-one autographed trading card featuring the player.
The initiative is designed to mark a significant milestone in a player’s career while creating exclusive memorabilia for football fans and collectors.
Only players making their first appearance in the competition will be eligible for the patch. Players who have previously featured in the Champions League will not receive one.
The initiative will begin with the 2026/27 Champions League campaign, whose league phase is scheduled to begin from September 8.
UEFA said the partnership with Fanatics would help create new ways for supporters to connect with memorable moments and players in its competitions.
The Champions League Debut Patch follows similar memorabilia initiatives used in other major sporting competitions, where match-worn patches have been incorporated into collectible cards.
The new initiative adds another commercial and collectible element to the Champions League while giving debutants a physical memento of their first appearance in Europe’s premier club competition.
