Two Feared Killed in Plateau Mining Site Attack
Two people from Heipang District are feared killed after suspected gunmen attacked a mining site near Kuru Jenta in Plateau State.
Two people are feared killed after suspected gunmen opened fire at a mining site around Kuru Jenta, near the boundary between Jos South and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday while the victims were at the mining site.
A member of the affected community, Weng Bulus, said two people from Heipang District in Barkin Ladi were shot during the attack.
Bulus condemned the incident and cautioned residents against engaging in mining activities at night, particularly during the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed by the state government.
She urged residents to remain vigilant and avoid movements during restricted hours, warning that night mining could expose people to security risks.
Also reacting, the spokesman for the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, Rwang Tengwong, condemned the killing and called on security agencies to investigate the incident.
Tengwong urged security operatives to identify those responsible and bring them to justice, while also advising residents, especially miners, to comply with security measures and avoid night operations.
Efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command for confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
