Trump TV Goes Live as Major US Networks Halt Coverage

The White House has launched a 24-hour streaming platform known as “Trump TV” as major United States television networks suspend their shared coverage of President Donald Trump’s official events.

The platform, officially titled “TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station,” provides continuous video content featuring Trump’s speeches, administration announcements, public appearances and selected footage from his presidency.

The White House announced the service on Monday, describing it as a platform where viewers could access major moments and announcements from the administration.

The launch followed an escalating dispute between the Trump administration and several major news organisations over access to the White House.

Trump recently barred journalists from CNN, Politico and MS NOW from the White House, prompting the three organisations to file a federal lawsuit challenging the restrictions.

The media organisations argued that the administration’s decision violated constitutional protections and amounted to retaliation over their reporting.

The dispute subsequently affected the White House television pool, through which major broadcasters share responsibility for recording and distributing footage of presidential events.

ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and CNN had participated in the pool, which provides footage used by television stations and other media organisations in the United States and internationally.

Following CNN’s exclusion from its scheduled pool duties, the other major broadcasters announced that they would suspend shared coverage of presidential events rather than replace the network.

The decision meant that some of Trump’s public activities were no longer covered by the traditional television pool.

The White House responded by promoting its own digital platform, allowing it to distribute presidential footage directly to viewers without depending on television networks.

The first Trump TV broadcasts included previously recorded footage from Trump’s public appearances, rather than continuous live coverage of every presidential activity.

The launch came as Trump was in New York for the 81st United Nations General Assembly.

The dispute has also affected coverage of other presidential activities, including events at the White House.

The White House has defended its restrictions on the affected news organisations, while the networks have maintained that the public has an interest in receiving independent coverage of government activities.

The three barred media organisations are seeking court intervention to restore their access to the White House.

The legal battle is expected to determine whether the administration can restrict individual news organisations’ access to presidential events based on its stated concerns over their reporting.

Meanwhile, the suspension of the television pool and launch of Trump TV have created an unusual media environment in which the White House is increasingly able to distribute its own footage directly to the public.
