Transfer: ‘Hard To Say Goodbye’ — Super Eagles’ Francis Uzoho Leaves AC Omonia

Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has bid an emotional farewell to Cypriot club AC Omonia after ending his long association with the team.

The 27-year-old Nigerian goalkeeper expressed his gratitude to the club, supporters and everyone who contributed to his career during his time in Cyprus.

Uzoho joined Omonia initially on loan from Deportivo La Coruña in July 2019 before returning to the club on a permanent transfer in 2021.

During his spell with the Cypriot side, the Nigerian goalkeeper made 77 appearances across all competitions, conceding 84 goals and keeping 29 clean sheets.

In an emotional farewell message, Uzoho thanked Omonia supporters for the love and unwavering support they showed him throughout his time at the club.

The goalkeeper described his departure as an emotional moment, acknowledging the strong connection he developed with the club and its supporters.

Uzoho leaves Omonia after being part of a successful 2025/26 campaign that saw the club win the Cypriot First Division title.

Omonia secured the championship in May after defeating Aris Limassol 3-0, ending a five-year wait for the league trophy. The success also gave Uzoho another major honour during his time with the club.

One of his most memorable performances for Omonia came during their UEFA Europa League encounter against Manchester United at Old Trafford in October 2022. Uzoho produced an outstanding display despite Omonia eventually losing the match.

The Nigerian international has also remained part of the Super Eagles setup and represented Nigeria during the 2026 Unity Cup, where he served as the ceremonial captain during the trophy presentation.

His departure brings an end to a significant chapter of his European career, having spent several years playing in Cyprus and gaining valuable experience in domestic and continental competitions.

Uzoho will now consider the next stage of his career after leaving a club where he established himself as one of Nigeria’s most experienced goalkeepers abroad.

His time at Omonia included both challenging periods and memorable achievements, culminating in the Cypriot league title.

For Omonia, replacing a goalkeeper with Uzoho’s experience will be an important task as the club prepares for another demanding domestic and European campaign.

For the Nigerian, the next move will offer an opportunity to begin a fresh chapter while continuing his pursuit of regular football at club and international level.
