Top 10: Man City Lead Global Transfer-Window Spending List With €526m

Manchester City have emerged as the biggest spenders in world football during the 2026 summer transfer window after investing €526 million on new players.

The Premier League champions topped a global ranking of clubs with the highest transfer expenditure, highlighting the scale of their squad rebuild under Maresca.

City accelerated spending towards the end of the window, completing deals for Enzo Fernandez and Iliman Ndiaye. Fernandez arrived from Chelsea for about €145 million, matching the British transfer record, while Ndiaye joined from Everton for around €70 million.

City also invested heavily in Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi as Maresca reshaped the squad.

Chelsea ranked second globally after spending approximately €407 million. Tottenham Hotspur followed with €366 million, while Newcastle United and Aston Villa completed the top five with €313 million and €300 million respectively.

Liverpool occupied sixth position with €265 million, ahead of Arsenal, who spent €227 million.

Spanish giants Real Madrid were eighth on €225 million, making them one of only two clubs outside England in the global top 10. Newly promoted Ipswich Town were ninth after spending €221 million, while Barcelona completed the ranking with €184 million.

The figures represent gross transfer spending rather than net expenditure after player sales.

Manchester City also generated significant income from departures during the window, meaning the club’s net investment was substantially lower than its headline spending figure.

City’s activity set a new English record for spending in a single transfer window. The previous benchmark was held by Liverpool, who spent roughly €480 million during the previous summer window.

City’s spending also contributed to another extraordinary period for English football. Premier League clubs dominated the global rankings, with eight teams featuring among the top 10.

The spending reflects the Premier League’s financial strength and its substantial broadcasting and commercial revenues.

For City, the aggressive recruitment represents a major attempt to strengthen the squad and maintain their position among Europe’s elite.

With more than half a billion euros committed to incoming players, the club has made one of the boldest transfer investments in football, setting a new benchmark for a single summer window.
