Toluwanisings’ Grandmother Alleges Neglect, Opposes Cemetery Burial
Fresh family tensions have emerged over late gospel singer Toluwanisings’ burial, amid allegations of neglect and disagreement over his final resting place.
Fresh controversy has emerged following the death of Nigerian gospel singer Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, as family members disagree over his burial arrangements and concerns surrounding his final resting place.
The singer died on October 14, 2026, after reportedly collapsing at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo State. His death shocked fans and colleagues, while the circumstances surrounding his passing have continued to attract public attention.
Reports of a dispute between the singer’s family and his widow, Elizabeth, have intensified discussions about who should determine his burial arrangements.
The late singer’s father, Muniru Adekunle Olayemi, has expressed a preference for his son to be buried inside the house he built in Ibadan. Alternatively, he proposed that Toluwanisings be taken to Ikirun, Osun State, and buried beside his late mother.
The widow reportedly prefers a conventional cemetery or church burial, explaining that she would find it emotionally difficult to continue living in a house where her husband was buried.
The disagreement has generated mixed reactions, with some Nigerians expressing sympathy for the widow and her two children, while others have called for the wishes of the deceased’s parents and extended family to be considered.
In a further development, members of the singer’s paternal family have called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. His uncle, speaking on behalf of the family, said the burial should be suspended until the cause of death is established.
The family also appealed to the government, religious leaders and other influential Nigerians to support what it described as a thorough and transparent investigation. Relatives reportedly said they were prepared to cover additional mortuary expenses while awaiting the outcome.
The cause of Toluwanisings’ death has not been officially established in the reports reviewed, and no verified findings of wrongdoing have been announced.
Meanwhile, the dispute has renewed public conversations about the treatment of widows, family responsibilities and the challenges of making funeral decisions after an unexpected death.
As the family navigates its grief, calls for restraint and a peaceful resolution have continued, with the singer’s final resting place and the proposed investigation remaining central issues.
