Tinubu Warns Ekiti Politicians Against Early 2030 Governorship Declarations
President Bola Tinubu cautions Ekiti politicians against early 2030 governorship declarations, warning that political ambitions could distract Governor Biodun Oyebanji from governance.
President Bola Tinubu has warned politicians in Ekiti State against declaring interest in the 2030 governorship election too early, cautioning that such moves could distract Governor Biodun Oyebanji from delivering on his mandate.
The President said premature political declarations could create internal contradictions and tensions capable of affecting governance in the state.
The warning comes as Oyebanji begins his second term in office following his inauguration on Friday, October 16, 2026.
Tinubu urged political actors to avoid actions that could undermine the governor’s administration, stressing the importance of allowing the government to concentrate on its responsibilities rather than becoming entangled in early succession politics.
The development highlights concerns about the potential impact of early political manoeuvring on party unity and the implementation of government programmes ahead of the next governorship election.
Oyebanji’s second term is expected to focus on consolidating ongoing development initiatives and improving service delivery across Ekiti State. His administration has identified sectors including healthcare, roads, electricity, water supply, agriculture and human capital development as priorities.
The President’s caution signals a call for political stakeholders to give the governor room to pursue his agenda while avoiding disputes that could weaken cooperation within the political establishment.
The 2030 governorship election remains several years away, and the warning places attention on the relationship between political ambition, party cohesion and effective governance during the current administration.
