Tinubu to Present 2027 Budget Before Year-End — Minister
President Bola Tinubu is expected to present Nigeria’s 2027 budget before the end of December, as the Federal Government prepares its next annual spending plan.
President Bola Tinubu will present the 2027 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly before the end of 2026, according to a minister who disclosed the government’s plan.
The proposed budget presentation is expected to set the stage for legislative consideration of the Federal Government’s spending priorities, revenue projections and economic policies for the 2027 fiscal year.
The annual budget outlines the government’s proposed expenditure on infrastructure, education, healthcare, security, social intervention programmes and other critical sectors. It also provides estimates of expected revenue from taxation, oil earnings, borrowing and other sources.
Presenting the budget before the end of the year would provide lawmakers with an opportunity to begin scrutiny of the proposals and engage government officials on the assumptions underpinning the fiscal plan.
The National Assembly is responsible for examining the proposed estimates, conducting committee reviews and approving the final appropriation legislation before it becomes law.
The timing of the presentation is significant as Nigeria continues to contend with rising living costs, infrastructure gaps, revenue pressures and demands for improved public services.
The 2027 budget is expected to reflect the administration’s economic priorities, including efforts to strengthen public finances, support economic growth and fund ongoing development projects.
However, the final shape of the spending plan will depend on the government’s revenue outlook, expenditure commitments and borrowing requirements. Lawmakers may also seek clarification on allocations to ministries, departments and agencies during the budget review process.
The Federal Government has yet to provide further details in this report on the proposed budget’s total size, revenue assumptions or sector-by-sector allocations.
The presentation date and the specific contents of the proposal will become clearer as the administration completes preparations for the next fiscal year.
