The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Felix Morka, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu has outperformed all democratically elected Nigerian presidents during their first terms in office.

Morka made the claim on Monday during an interview on Channels Television while defending the Tinubu administration’s performance.

He said Tinubu inherited an economy that was in “complete mess” but had turned it around through policies implemented by the APC-led government.

According to Morka, the economic indicators showed that the administration had made significant progress despite the difficulties it inherited.

He said Tinubu had performed better in his first term than former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari did during their respective first terms.

Morka also defended the record of the APC government, saying critics of the administration were beginning to acknowledge its achievements.

He argued that Nigeria had moved beyond the severe macroeconomic challenges confronting the country when Tinubu assumed office in 2023.

The APC spokesman described former President Muhammadu Buhari as a “stopgap president”, saying Buhari’s administration had stabilised the country after what he described as 16 years of poor governance under the Peoples Democratic Party.

Morka said Buhari’s role was to prevent the country from “tipping over the precipice” before handing over to Tinubu.

He maintained that Tinubu’s reforms had placed Nigeria on a better economic trajectory and that the administration’s record would speak for itself as the 2027 elections approach.
