Tinubu Flags Off Reconstruction of Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road, Approves Abeokuta–Ibadan Dualisation
Tinubu launches reconstruction of the 58km Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road and approves immediate dualisation of the Abeokuta–Ibadan corridor.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has flagged off the reconstruction and dualisation of the 58-kilometre Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road linking Oyo and Ogun states.
The President also approved the immediate reconstruction and dualisation of the Abeokuta–Ibadan Road.
The projects are part of the Federal Government’s efforts to strengthen transportation infrastructure, improve economic integration and address critical infrastructure deficits across the South-West.
Tinubu spoke during the flag-off ceremony held at the open field of Legacy Estate, Idi-Ape, Ibadan. He was represented at the event by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.
The President said the projects demonstrated his administration’s commitment to improving strategic economic corridors and delivering infrastructure with direct benefits to Nigerians.
He described the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road as a major economic artery connecting Ibadan and Ijebu-Ode to the Lekki economic axis, with links to other parts of the South-West and the country.
Tinubu said the project represented more than the commencement of another road construction, describing it as a decisive step towards addressing infrastructure gaps that hinder economic growth.
“The Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode Road is too important to Oyo State, Ogun State, Lagos and, indeed, the entire Nigeria to be left unattended to,” the President said.
He added that the Renewed Hope Agenda was moving from promises to practical action through projects designed to improve mobility, strengthen commerce and create new economic opportunities.
The dualisation of the Ibadan–Ijebu-Ode corridor is expected to improve connectivity between major commercial centres in the South-West, facilitate the movement of people and goods, and strengthen access to the Lagos–Lekki economic corridor.
The approval of the Abeokuta–Ibadan Road dualisation is also expected to further improve connectivity between Ogun and Oyo states while supporting regional trade and economic activities
