Tinubu Congratulates Adeleke, Says Osun Victory Reflects People’s Will

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the August 15 governorship election, describing the outcome as a reflection of the will and confidence of the people.

Tinubu conveyed his congratulatory message in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, after Adeleke was declared winner of the election.

The President said he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him, adding that the result demonstrated the confidence Osun residents had placed in the governor.

Tinubu urged Adeleke to use his second term to unite the people of the state, regardless of their political affiliations, and focus on growth, stability and social and economic development.

“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirmed the confidence the people of Osun State have in him,” Tinubu said.

He also commended the other candidates who participated in the election, saying their involvement contributed to Nigeria’s democratic development.

The President further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.

Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, was declared winner at about 7:24am on Sunday by the State Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Ogunwole, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti.

He secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won in 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress finished third with 17,180 votes.

The victory gives Adeleke another four-year term after he first became governor in 2022 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party. He contested the 2026 election under the Accord Party.

Earlier on Sunday, Adeleke thanked Tinubu for the congratulatory call and reaffirmed his support for the President’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.

Adeleke described Tinubu as a “son of Osun State” while expressing his appreciation for the President’s gesture following the election.
