Tinubu Approves Ibom Deep Seaport, Victor Attah Airport Upgrade
President Bola Tinubu has approved the development of the Ibom Deep Seaport and the upgrade of Victor Attah International Airport to international standards.
President Bola Tinubu has approved the development of the Ibom Deep Seaport and the upgrade of Victor Attah International Airport in Akwa Ibom State.
The President announced the approvals on Friday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Uyo, following requests presented by Governor Umo Eno on behalf of the state.
Tinubu described the proposed seaport as a major economic opportunity for Akwa Ibom, noting that its development would stimulate commercial activities, attract investments and create new opportunities.
“It is approved; Ibom Deep Seaport will bring associated economic value and economic development here,” the President said.
He also confirmed approval for the upgrade of Victor Attah International Airport to international standards, stressing the importance of infrastructure development in supporting economic growth.
“Your leader made a request for international airport status. I approved it,” he added.
The approvals represent a significant step in the state's efforts to advance the deep seaport project, which is expected to strengthen maritime trade, logistics and industrial development in the South-South region.
The proposed facility is designed to accommodate large vessels and serve as a transshipment hub for cargo distribution across Nigeria and other parts of West and Central Africa. Its development is also linked to plans for an industrial city in the state.
Tinubu commended Eno for sustaining infrastructure development, emphasising the importance of continuity in governance, effective leadership and commitment to public service.
The President also pledged to support opportunities for young people through education, skills acquisition, employment and agricultural development, identifying oil palm cultivation as an area with potential for economic expansion in Akwa Ibom.
He urged eligible Nigerians, particularly young people, to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate in the 2027 general elections.
The announcement came during Tinubu's visit to Akwa Ibom, which also featured the inauguration of projects completed by the state government, including facilities at Victor Attah International Airport, roads, the AKWA-GIS Office Complex, the Command and Control Centre and the ARISE Palm
