Tinubu Appoints Abel Enitan Head of Civil Service of the Federation

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, effective August 27, 2026.

The appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Enitan will succeed Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.

According to the statement, Enitan, an indigene of Osun State, is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service.

He has served as a Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months, with postings to the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.

Enitan currently serves as Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.

The Presidency said his appointment was based on his seniority and experience within the Federal Civil Service.

President Tinubu commended the outgoing Head of Service, Walson-Jack, for what he described as her distinguished service to the nation.

The President also acknowledged the reforms, innovations and institutional impact recorded within the Civil Service during her tenure.

Tinubu wished Walson-Jack a fulfilling and successful post-service life and expressed appreciation for her years of dedicated public service.

The President subsequently tasked Enitan with building on the reforms and innovations already introduced across the Federal Civil Service.

He urged the incoming Head of Service to deepen professionalism, efficiency and accountability while strengthening the capacity of the Service to deliver effectively on the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu also charged Enitan to lead a Civil Service that is merit-driven, innovative, responsive and focused on the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.

The appointment takes effect on August 27, 2026, when Walson-Jack formally exits the Federal Civil Service.
