Three members of a local vigilante group have been killed after gunmen attacked a community security post at Gwa Rim in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 2am on Wednesday when the attackers opened fire on the vigilantes who were keeping watch at the post.
A resident of Riyom, Damba Dang, who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen struck while the community was asleep, killing three local security guards.
Dang expressed concern over the renewed attacks on communities in the area, saying residents were increasingly worried about their safety.
He said the killing was particularly disturbing because the victims were providing security for their community and helping to protect residents from attacks.
He appealed to security agencies to strengthen security around Gwa Rim and other vulnerable communities in Riyom to prevent further attacks.
Dang also urged security operatives to investigate the incident, track down the perpetrators and ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
