TG Omori Reveals N31m Kidney Transplant Cost
Music video director TG Omori has opened up about the financial burden of kidney failure treatment, saying dialysis and transplant costs placed a major strain on his finances.
Nigerian music video director, ThankGod Omori, popularly known as TG Omori, has revealed that treating his kidney failure cost millions of naira, including about N31 million for a transplant.
Omori disclosed this during an interview on the Afropolitan podcast published on YouTube on Wednesday, where he recounted his experience with the illness and the challenges he faced while awaiting a transplant.
He said dialysis sessions cost between N50,000 and N70,000 at some hospitals, while he paid between N150,000 and N200,000 at a private facility.
According to him, patients may require as many as three dialysis sessions a week, with his treatment sometimes costing about N500,000 weekly.
Omori said he waited for about a year for a transplant, which he estimated cost N31 million, excluding additional expenses such as tests, medication and possible complications.
He also revealed that his brother donated a kidney to him after the family spent nine months searching for a donor, but doctors later discovered that the organ was not compatible with his body.
He said doctors attempted to get his body to accept the donated kidney before the procedure was ultimately unsuccessful.
Reflecting on the financial burden of treatment, Omori said even earning N1 million monthly would not have been enough to sustain the cost of dialysis.
He said the experience changed his perspective on the importance of financial resources during serious illness, noting that money could provide additional time for patients to access treatment.
Omori first disclosed in 2024 that he had undergone a kidney transplant, saying his only brother had donated one of his kidneys.
