Terrorists Planning Attacks On Worship Centres, Schools, NYSC Camps — Police Issue Alert

The Nigeria Police Force has raised the alarm over intelligence indicating that terrorists and their local collaborators are conducting surveillance on schools, places of worship, NYSC orientation camps and other vulnerable locations across the country.

The warning comes as schools resume for the 2026/2027 academic session, with security agencies expressing concern that terrorists could exploit the return of large numbers of students and staff to launch attacks.

According to a security alert circulated to police formations nationwide, intelligence available to the police indicated increased mobilisation of terrorist elements for possible coordinated attacks.

The police also reported the movement of armed elements through parts of northern Nigeria, while suspected terrorist operatives and their local collaborators were said to be conducting surveillance and reconnaissance of potential targets.

The alert directed police commands and formations to intensify surveillance, patrols, stop-and-search operations, access control and rapid-response arrangements around schools, worship centres, NYSC camps and other vulnerable locations.

Commissioners of Police were also instructed to strengthen security around state borders, entry and exit points, and other routes that could be used by armed groups to infiltrate affected areas.

The police further directed personnel to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, vehicles, movements and objects through established security channels.

Security agencies have also intensified intelligence gathering and protective measures around schools and other learning institutions in response to the threat.

Authorities urged parents, school administrators and members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.

Security officials stressed that preventing terrorist attacks requires cooperation between security agencies, communities, school authorities and members of the public.

The police assured Nigerians that efforts were ongoing to identify and disrupt terrorist networks and prevent attacks on vulnerable locations.

The warning has heightened concerns among parents and school authorities, particularly in areas that have previously experienced attacks by armed groups.

Security agencies therefore urged Nigerians not to panic but to remain alert and promptly communicate any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
