Nigerian singer Teniola Apata, popularly known as Teni, has challenged her colleague Tiwa Savage to a physical fight, in a video shared on her Instagram page that has since drawn attention and reactions online.

Teni made the challenge while discussing the earnings of Nigerian artistes and the expensive lifestyles of some of her male colleagues. In the video, she directed her comments at Tiwa Savage, declaring that she would beat her badly before eventually apologising afterward. She also questioned how some male artistes in the industry are able to afford expensive cars and other luxury items despite what she suggested were comparatively lower earnings for their female counterparts.

"Let's fight, me and Tiwa Savage next, I'll beat you enter bush, me that I'm already angry, I won't even look at your son Jamal's face. 1 billion. You're wondering how your male colleagues are buying cars, etc, if they pay us 1.5 billion, you can buy Bugatti. Mama, let's fight... I will beat you to the point, I'll beg you later," Teni said.

Tiwa Savage responded to the challenge with a brief message on social media, simply telling Teni to "pick a date," a reply that has itself generated further conversation among fans following the exchange.

Both Teni and Tiwa Savage are prominent figures within Nigeria's Afrobeats music scene, with each having built substantial careers and large followings over the years. While the tone of Teni's challenge appeared largely humorous, framed around broader commentary on pay disparities within the industry rather than any personal grievance against Tiwa Savage specifically, the exchange nonetheless quickly became a talking point online, with the pair's playful back-and-forth drawing attention from fans eager to see how the back-and-forth might develop further.

The episode comes amid a broader pattern of Nigerian celebrities engaging in public banter, challenges, and occasionally staged celebrity boxing contests that have become a recurring feature of the country's entertainment and social media landscape in recent months.

Separately, celebrity sparring of a more literal kind has continued to make headlines, with reality television star Phyna recently challenging Nollywood actress Etinosa Idemudia to a boxing match, following her win over fellow actress Nkechi Blessing in a widely covered bout earlier in the week. That challenge has, in turn, drawn commentary from other entertainment figures, including comedian Aderombi Adedayo Martin, popularly known as DeeOne, who weighed in by daring Phyna to instead face other personalities within the industry.

Whether Teni's challenge to Tiwa Savage will similarly translate into any kind of organised contest, celebrity boxing or otherwise, remains unclear, with neither artiste having indicated beyond their initial exchange that a formal matchup is actually being planned. For now, the back-and-forth appears to be confined to social media banter, consistent with a broader trend of Nigerian entertainers using such playful challenges and exchanges to generate engagement and conversation among their respective fanbases.
