Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has condemned the reported attack on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, and called for a thorough investigation.

Dan’iya alleged that personnel of the Sokoto Marshal and the Sokoto State Community Guard blocked his convoy near Sokoto Airport on Friday, October 30, fired gunshots, damaged his vehicle and detained two Department of State Services (DSS) operatives attached to his security detail.

Tambuwal, in a statement issued on Saturday through his media office, described the allegations as disturbing and urged the Nigeria Police Force, the DSS and other relevant security agencies to conduct an independent and impartial investigation and ensure that anyone found responsible was brought to justice.

He stressed that every Nigerian had the right to move freely, associate with a political party and seek public office in accordance with the law, adding that no citizen should face threats or harassment for exercising those rights.

The senator urged political actors to resolve their differences through peaceful and lawful engagement, insisting that citizens should determine political outcomes through their votes rather than violence.

He also cautioned against the use of security outfits as instruments of political intimidation and called on the Sokoto State Government to ensure that agencies under its authority operated lawfully and impartially.

Despite the reported incident, Tambuwal said the ADC would proceed with its scheduled presidential campaign flag-off in Sokoto on November 4, 2026.

He urged party members and supporters to remain calm and exercise restraint, while reaffirming the need to protect the right of all citizens to participate freely in the democratic process.
