Super Falcons Receive $100,000 Equivalent as Tinubu Fulfils Reward Pledge
Nigeria’s Super Falcons players have received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each, while members of the technical crew and officials received $50,000 each, completing President Bola Tinubu’s financial reward for winning the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria’s senior women’s football team, the Super Falcons, have received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each following the Federal Government’s fulfilment of President Bola Tinubu’s financial reward promised after their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Members of the team’s technical crew and other officials also received the equivalent of $50,000 each, completing the cash component of the presidential reward package.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) announced the payments on Monday, saying the disbursement fulfilled the President’s commitment to the team after they secured their record-extending 10th continental title.
NSC Chairman, Shehu Dikko, thanked Tinubu for honouring his pledge, describing the payment as recognition of the players’ achievement and their contribution to Nigerian sports.
He said the Super Falcons had already received title documents for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja, alongside certificates confirming their national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
Dikko said the payment followed collaboration between the commission and the Ministries of Finance, Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, and Housing and Urban Development.
He noted that the completion of the reward package marked a departure from previous experiences in which Nigerian athletes waited several years for promised incentives.
According to him, fulfilling the commitment would encourage athletes to represent the country with confidence, knowing that their efforts and achievements would be recognised.
Tinubu announced the rewards at a presidential reception for the team on July 28, 2025, after the Super Falcons defeated hosts Morocco 3-2 in the final in Rabat, recovering from a two-goal deficit to claim the title.
The President approved the naira equivalent of $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for every member of the technical crew, in addition to three-bedroom apartments and national honours.
The latest disbursement follows a similar payment to Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, whose players received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each in September 2026 after winning their fifth consecutive Women’s AfroBasket title in 2025.
The Federal Government has also fulfilled housing and national honour commitments made to the Super Eagles following their silver-medal finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.
