Super Falcons Line Up Senegal Double-Header to Boost WAFCON Title Preparations

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, are set to ramp up their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a high-profile double-header international friendly against Senegal next month.

The ten-time African champions will host the Teranga Lionesses during the upcoming June FIFA women’s international window. The two warm-up matches are scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars International Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Friday, June 5, and Monday, June 8.

The confirmation of the Senegal fixtures provides a vital competitive lifeline for Nigeria's buildup following weeks of scheduling uncertainty. The team's initial plans for a training tour of the United Kingdom, which was slated to feature a friendly against Jamaica, had to be cancelled because the dates fell outside the official FIFA window, creating major concerns over whether clubs would release key players.

Having missed out on game time during the previous international break, caretaker coach Justine Madugu and his technical crew will look to maximize this window. Facing a physically robust and tactically disciplined Senegalese team will give the coaching staff a perfect opportunity to evaluate squad depth, test tactical frameworks, and fine-tune player combinations before they travel to Morocco for July’s continental showpiece, which also serves as part of the qualification journey for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
