Super Falcons Defender Glory Ogbonna Returns to Beşiktaş for Second Spell

Super Falcons defender Glory Ogbonna has completed a return to Turkish Women's Super Lig side Beşiktaş, marking her second spell with the club after a year away in Israeli football.

Beşiktaş confirmed the signing on their official website, stating that the club had strengthened its defensive line with the return of their former player, Glory Akumbu Ogbonna, born December 25, 1998, in Nigeria, ahead of the upcoming season.

Ogbonna spent the 2025/26 season with Israeli club Kiryat Gat after departing Beşiktaş, and now returns to the Turkish giants after a year away, bringing with her valuable prior experience of both the club itself and the wider Turkish women's football scene, factors likely to help ease her transition back into the squad.

The 27-year-old centre-back's professional career has taken her across several European leagues before her return to Turkey. She began her professional journey in Sweden with Umeå IK before moving on to Spanish outfit Santa Teresa Club Deportivo. She later had a spell with Turkish side ALG Spor before first joining Beşiktaş in 2023, a move that laid the foundation for the club familiarity she now brings back into this second spell.

Beyond her club career, Ogbonna has also built a substantial international profile with the Nigerian national team. She represented Nigeria at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup on two occasions, in 2016 and 2018, showcasing her talent on the youth international stage before establishing herself at senior level. She was subsequently part of the Super Falcons squad that won the 2018 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, one of Nigerian women's football's most significant continental triumphs.

Her international career reached a further milestone when she was included in Nigeria's 23-player squad for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, cementing her status as one of the key defensive options for the Super Falcons on the global stage.
