Sultan Directs Muslims to Search for New Moon on Monday

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has urged Muslims across the country to search for the new moon of Jumada Assaniya 1448 AH on Monday, November 9.

Jumada Assaniya, also known as Jumada al-Thani or Jumada al-Akhirah, is the sixth month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Sultanate Council of Sokoto, which said Monday corresponds to the 29th day of Jumada al-Ula 1448 AH.

The statement was signed by the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Sultanate Council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Professor Sambo Wali Junaidu.

It urged Muslims who sight the crescent to report their observations to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to the Sultan.

The council said reports of confirmed sightings should be transmitted through the traditional institutions to enable the Sultan to take the necessary action.

It also called on Muslims to seek Allah’s guidance and assistance in carrying out the religious responsibility.

The statement concluded with a prayer for divine help in the discharge of the duty.
