Soludo Targets 50 Per Cent of Anambra Votes for Tinubu in 2027

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has pledged to mobilise at least 50 per cent of the state's votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

Soludo made the declaration on Friday during the flag-off of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) campaign at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, where he announced that the party had adopted Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, as its preferred choice for the election.

The governor, who addressed party candidates and supporters alongside his deputy and members of the state executive council, said APGA would not present its own presidential candidate in 2027.

“Today, we adopt the APC presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as our candidate,” he said.

Soludo explained that the decision was consistent with the party's previous practice of supporting the presidential candidate of the ruling party. He said Tinubu had demonstrated concern for the Igbo people, particularly Anambra State, and recalled that the President appointed several indigenes of the state to strategic positions during his tenure as Lagos State governor.

The governor also recalled that Tinubu received fewer than 5,000 votes in Anambra during the 2023 presidential election, but maintained that his administration had continued to address challenges affecting the state and the wider South-East region.

“We gave him only about 5,000 votes, and yet he is doing wonderful works in the state,” Soludo said.

He urged residents to support Tinubu in the next election, arguing that stronger electoral backing would provide Anambra and the South-East with greater opportunities to engage the Federal Government and negotiate development projects for the region.

“We need to vote for him in order to sit with the government at the centre and negotiate for the development of the South-East and Anambra State. We are targeting 50 per cent for the President,” he added.

Soludo also called on APGA members to intensify grassroots mobilisation and campaign across the state.

At the event, the party unveiled more than 253 candidates for various elective positions across the country. It also presented flags to 44 candidates contesting legislative seats in Anambra, comprising three senatorial candidates, 11 House of Representatives candidates and 30 State House of Assembly candidates.

APGA National Chairman, Chief Sly Ezeokenwa, expressed confidence in the party and urged its candidates to take its manifesto to communities and voting districts across the country.

The campaign launch marks APGA's formal mobilisation for the 2027 elections, with the party seeking to consolidate its political position in Anambra while backing Tinubu's re-election bid.
