Nigerian troops have rescued a 40-year-old kidnap victim and recovered 18 rustled cattle following a gun battle with suspected terrorists in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The operation was carried out as part of ongoing military efforts to combat insecurity, particularly kidnapping and cattle rustling, which have continued to threaten rural communities in the North-West.
According to the report, the troops engaged the suspected terrorists in a firefight during the operation, forcing the assailants to flee and enabling the rescue of the abducted victim.
The recovery of the 18 cattle also represented a recovery of livestock taken during criminal activities in the area.
Danko-Wasagu and other parts of Kebbi State have experienced security challenges linked to armed groups operating across parts of the North-West. Such attacks have disrupted farming, trade and other economic activities, while leaving residents exposed to abduction and the loss of livestock.
Military operations in the region have increasingly focused on rescuing kidnapped persons, recovering stolen property and disrupting the activities of armed groups.
The latest operation underscores continuing efforts by security forces to protect lives and property and restore confidence among communities affected by criminal attacks.
Residents are expected to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information that could help identify criminal movements and prevent further attacks.
