Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation Whirl Stroke, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and rescued a kidnapped victim in separate operations in Nasarawa and Benue states.

The Acting Media Information Officer of OPWS, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Makurdi.

He said troops of Sector 2 arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as Adamu Lamu at Agyaragu, Nasarawa State, after a kidnap victim escaped from the syndicate.

The victim, 31-year-old Nehemiah Elisha, reportedly later spotted Lamu at a market in Agyaragu and alerted troops deployed in the area.

The soldiers responded swiftly and arrested the suspect, who was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and legal action.

In a separate operation, troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion XI rescued another kidnap victim, identified as Vincent Nyado, along the Umene–Torkula Road in Benue State at about 10:07am on Sunday.

Nyado was found tied and abandoned by the roadside after suspected terrorists reportedly fled into nearby bushes when they sighted the approaching troops.

The rescued victim was secured by the soldiers, while efforts are ongoing to gather further information and identify the fleeing suspects.

OPWS said its troops remained committed to intelligence-led operations across Benue, Nasarawa and Taraba states, while urging residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
