Sokoto ADC Candidate Demands Urgent Action on Worsening Insecurity
ADC governorship candidate Manir Dan’iya has urged the Sokoto and Federal Governments to intensify action against banditry, protect displaced residents and account for security spending.
The African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Sokoto State, Manir Dan’iya, has called for urgent government action over worsening insecurity, including displacement, abductions and destruction of communities.
Dan’iya also challenged the state and local governments to account for more than N1.2tn in Federation Account allocations reportedly received so far, asking authorities to disclose how much had been spent on security, humanitarian assistance and rebuilding affected communities.
In a statement issued by his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, Dan’iya said residents had been displaced from Girkau, Romon Liman, Romon Sarki, Margai and Masu, with many fleeing to Tambuwal town.
He also cited protests in Tambuwal, where residents reportedly blocked the Tambuwal-Jega and Tambuwal-Aleiro roads to express frustration over persistent insecurity.
The ADC candidate said the reported destruction of villages and abduction of women and girls required an immediate response, adding that government could not remain silent while communities were being driven from their ancestral homes.
Dan’iya accused the APC-led state government of failing to demonstrate sufficient urgency in addressing the security situation and demanded clearer information on measures being taken to protect communities and rescue abducted persons.
He urged security agencies to intensify intelligence-led operations and ensure that those responsible for attacks were arrested and prosecuted.
Dan’iya also said insecurity had worsened the state’s economic and humanitarian challenges by displacing farmers, disrupting agricultural activities and damaging local economies.
He called for an emergency response framework for displaced residents, including assistance to affected families and measures to restore safe access to farms and markets.
The ADC candidate further urged the government to work with traditional rulers, community leaders and security agencies to restore stability in affected areas.
