Ronke Oshodi-Oke Defends Accepting Cash to Support Political Figures
Nollywood actress Ronke Oshodi-Oke has defended accepting money for supporting political figures and campaigning for them. She argued that such engagements are part of her work and should not automatically attract condemnation.
Nollywood actress Ronke Ojo, popularly known as Ronke Oshodi-Oke, has defended her decision to accept money from political figures in exchange for supporting or campaigning for them.
The actress said people should not condemn her for accepting financial compensation, arguing that she was simply earning a living from her work and political engagements.
Oshodi-Oke said accepting money to support politicians should not automatically be interpreted as corruption, noting that political figures often engage entertainers and other public personalities to promote their campaigns.
She urged members of the public to understand the realities surrounding such engagements rather than attacking her for receiving payment.
The actress has previously spoken about her involvement in political campaigns. In 2023, she said she had campaigned for the All Progressives Congress in 2019 and acknowledged receiving money during the exercise, although she described the amount as insignificant.
She had also expressed regret over supporting the party after becoming disappointed by the government's handling of the #EndSARS protests.
Her latest comments have again sparked discussion about the relationship between Nigerian entertainers and politicians, particularly the practice of celebrities publicly endorsing political candidates during election campaigns.
Oshodi-Oke maintained that her participation in political activities should be viewed within the context of her profession and personal choices.
