Ronaldo Will Return to Portugal Squad in November — Federation President

Portugal Football Federation president Pedro Proença has expressed confidence that Cristiano Ronaldo will return to the national team during the November international break following the forward’s recent departure from the squad.

Proença said the federation, head coach and players were united in their desire to welcome the 41-year-old captain back, adding that Ronaldo was also willing to return.

“Everyone, without exception, wants us to be together again in November,” Proença said on Saturday, according to Portuguese media reports.

He described the situation as a misunderstanding and called for calm as discussions continued over the player’s future with the national team.

Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp in September after being an unused substitute in a 2-1 victory over Norway. The decision followed a disagreement over his expected role in the match and the subsequent announcement that he would not start against Denmark.

The Al-Nassr forward later explained that he felt a breach of trust had occurred between him and head coach Jorge Jesus. He also apologised for his actions and said he would remain available for Portugal after serving any suspension that might be imposed.

Jesus has previously said Ronaldo could return if he wished, stressing that the decision ultimately rested with the player.

However, the situation remains subject to disciplinary proceedings. The Portuguese Football Federation has initiated a process to examine the circumstances surrounding Ronaldo’s departure from the squad and has provisionally suspended him pending the outcome.

The federation’s president has nevertheless indicated that efforts are underway to resolve the matter and restore the captain to the team.

Portugal are scheduled to face Denmark on November 14 before travelling to Wales three days later. Ronaldo’s availability for those fixtures will depend on the outcome of the disciplinary process and the final squad selection.

Ronaldo remains Portugal’s all-time leading scorer, with 146 international goals in 234 appearances. He has played a central role in the country’s success over the past two decades, including its Euro 2016 triumph and two Nations League titles.

Although Proença expects Ronaldo back in November, his return has not yet been formally confirmed.
