Resurgent D’Tigers Face Cameroon in World Cup Qualifiers

Nigeria’s D’Tigers will face Cameroon on Thursday in a crucial second-round match of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers in Tunisia.

The encounter will take place at the Salle Multidisciplinaire de Radès, with Nigeria beginning the second phase of its qualification campaign against Group E leaders Cameroon.

D’Tigers enter the contest with renewed confidence after winning all three of their matches in the previous qualifying window. Nigeria currently have 10 points, one point behind Cameroon.

Head coach David Fizdale has assembled a strong 12-man squad featuring Chimezie Metu, Josh Okogie, Caleb Agada, Chima Moneke, Stan Okoye and Udoka Azubuike.

Nigeria also boasts a favourable recent record against Cameroon, having won three of their last four meetings.

The match is particularly important because results from the first round are carried into the second phase, making every point valuable in the qualification race.

Following the Cameroon encounter, D’Tigers will face South Sudan on August 28 before concluding the current window against Cape Verde on August 30.

Nigeria is among 12 African teams competing in the second round for five places at the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar.

At the end of the qualification campaign, the top two teams in each group and the best third-placed team will secure World Cup tickets.

With Cameroon currently leading the group, D’Tigers know that a victory would provide a major boost to their qualification hopes.

The Nigerian team will therefore aim to maintain its recent momentum and translate its improved performances into another important result.
