Renewed Hope Cities: Tinubu’s Housing Initiative Draws Over 100,000 Nigerians as Projects Expand Nationwide
More than 100,000 Nigerians have expressed interest in the housing scheme, with projects advancing in Lagos, Kano and Abuja.
The Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Cities initiative has attracted more than 100,000 expressions of interest from Nigerians as housing projects under the programme expand across the country.
The initiative, introduced under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, is designed to increase access to affordable housing through a combination of government support, private-sector development and mortgage financing.
According to details released on Wednesday, more than 10,000 applicants have made firm subscriptions, while allocation letters and mortgages have already been issued to beneficiaries.
The flagship project at Karsana in Abuja, where President Tinubu performed the groundbreaking, is nearing completion, with thousands of housing units planned for the development.
The Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria is also providing mortgage financing to eligible contributors to the National Housing Fund. More than 2,000 Nigerians have reportedly benefited, while over 10,000 additional applications are being processed.
The scheme provides access to outright purchase, National Housing Fund-backed mortgages and rent-to-own arrangements, depending on the applicant’s eligibility and preferred payment option.
Beyond Abuja, construction is progressing in several locations. In Janguza, Kano State, more than 350 units have been completed, with another 650 under construction and targeted for delivery in March 2027.
In Lagos, developers are constructing 2,004 units along Monastery Road in the Lekki-Epe corridor, with the first 550 units expected to be delivered by April 2027.
Additional developments are planned at Jibi and Kagini in Abuja, while projects are also in the pipeline for Asaba, Ibadan, Katsina, Enugu, the Sagamu-Papalanto corridor and Port Harcourt.
The Federal Government’s housing programme ultimately targets 100,000 completed homes across the country, with official programme information stating that the initiative covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The programme is being financed through a combination of private developer funding, mortgage and construction finance from FMBN, support from the Family Homes Funds and Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority, as well as commercial banking support.
The housing ministry has said the broader objective is to expand homeownership among low- and middle-income Nigerians while stimulating employment and activity across the construction sector.
