Raphinha Replaces Neymar as Brazil’s No. 10

Raphinha has been handed Brazil’s iconic No. 10 shirt as the national team begins a new cycle following Neymar’s retirement from international football.

The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed the new squad numbers ahead of the team’s upcoming international friendlies against Australia and India.

The Barcelona forward, who previously wore No. 11 for Brazil, will now take over the number that Neymar wore during four consecutive World Cup tournaments.

Raphinha has worn the No. 10 shirt for Brazil before, including during Neymar’s previous absences from the national team. However, the number had remained closely associated with Neymar throughout the latter stages of his international career.

Neymar is Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 80 goals in 130 appearances. The 34-year-old confirmed his international retirement after the 2026 World Cup, bringing an end to a national-team career that included appearances at four World Cups.

The No. 10 shirt carries particular significance in Brazilian football, having previously been worn by legendary players including Pelé, Zico, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaká.

Raphinha now inherits the number as Brazil look toward a new generation under head coach Carlo Ancelotti.

There are several other changes to the squad numbers. Endrick has been given the No. 9 shirt, while teenage forward Estêvão takes Raphinha’s former No. 11. Vinícius Júnior retains the No. 7, while Bruno Guimarães continues with No. 8.

The new numbering will be used during Brazil’s upcoming friendlies, beginning with Friday’s meeting with Australia in Townsville.

Brazil will then face Australia again before travelling to India for another friendly in October.

For Raphinha, wearing the No. 10 represents a new responsibility as Brazil begins preparations for the next major international cycle and looks beyond the era dominated by Neymar.

The Barcelona star will now have the opportunity to establish himself as one of the central figures in Brazil’s post-Neymar generation.
