Rangers, Newcastle Stars Left Out of Denmark Squad, Boost for Nigeria
Nigeria’s pursuit of dual-national players Tochi Chukwuani and William Osula has received a boost after both were omitted from Denmark’s latest squad for the UEFA Nations League.
Nigeria’s chances of securing the international allegiance of Rangers midfielder Tochi Chukwuani and Newcastle United forward William Osula have received a boost following their omission from Denmark’s latest squad.
Denmark manager Brian Riemer announced a 24-man squad on Tuesday for four UEFA Nations League fixtures, with the two 23-year-olds not included. Denmark will face Norway in Oslo on September 24 before hosting Wales and Portugal on September 27 and October 1 respectively, followed by another meeting with Wales in Cardiff on October 4.
Osula, who was born in Copenhagen, has already made two senior appearances for Denmark. He made his debut in a friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo on June 3 and earned his second cap against Ukraine four days later.
The Newcastle forward was left out of the latest squad as he continues to recover from a foot injury and is not expected to regain full fitness until after the international break.
A further appearance for Denmark in the upcoming fixtures would have made Osula ineligible to switch his international allegiance to Nigeria under FIFA's eligibility rules.
Chukwuani, meanwhile, has represented Denmark at several youth levels, including the U16, U17, U19, U20 and U21 teams, but has yet to feature for the senior side.
The midfielder has also struggled for regular playing time at Rangers this season, starting four of his 10 appearances across all competitions.
