PSG Beat Manchester City 4-2 Away in Champions League
PSG claimed a memorable 4-2 away victory over Manchester City after scoring three first-half goals.
Paris Saint-Germain defeated Manchester City 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, delivering an impressive performance in the UEFA Champions League.
The defending European champions took control early, scoring three times in the first half to put Manchester City under pressure. Désiré Doué opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Ousmane Dembélé doubled PSG’s advantage just two minutes later.
City struggled to contain the visitors’ movement and attacking pace as PSG continued to create opportunities. Vitinha added the third goal in the 32nd minute, finishing a well-worked move after Warren Zaïre-Emery supplied a clever backheel.
Manchester City returned for the second half with greater urgency and began creating more chances. Erling Haaland reduced the deficit in the 53rd minute, heading home a cross from Iliman Ndiaye to give the hosts renewed hope.
However, PSG restored their three-goal cushion in the 62nd minute when Maghnes Akliouche scored from distance. His effort gave the visitors a 4-1 lead and halted City’s attempt to build momentum.
Haaland scored again in the 75th minute, finishing a pass from Ayyoub Bouaddi to make it 4-2. The Norwegian striker’s brace brought City closer, but PSG remained ahead as the home side pushed for another goal.
City created further opportunities, with efforts striking the woodwork, but PSG’s defence held firm. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma also made an important late save, stopping Ferran Torres from the penalty spot to preserve the visitors’ two-goal advantage.
The result ended Manchester City’s eight-match winning run in all competitions and marked a significant away victory for PSG in the Champions League league phase.
The match also saw former City manager Pep Guardiola return to the Etihad Stadium as a spectator following his departure from the club.
Manchester City will next turn their attention to domestic competition before hosting AEK Athens in their next Champions League fixture on October 20. PSG are scheduled to face Barcelona on the same night.
