Portable Demands DNA Test Over Ashabi’s Children

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has demanded a DNA test for his two children with actress Akinyanju Omobolarinde, popularly known as Ashabi Simple, before taking further financial responsibility for their upkeep, amid an escalating public dispute over the children's welfare.

The singer made the demand in an Instagram Story on Friday, amid an ongoing disagreement with Ashabi over the welfare and financial support of their two children. Portable said he wanted the paternity of the children established before committing further funds to their care, stating that he did not trust their mother. "I need DNA test asap so I can take care of those kids because I do not trust their mother. I cannot take care of another man's child," he wrote.

In a voice note circulated online, Portable further questioned the paternity of the children, saying he wanted them taken to a hospital for DNA testing before he would provide additional financial support. He questioned Ashabi's alleged movements during their relationship, claiming she sometimes stayed away from their home for several days because of film shoots. He also dismissed any physical resemblance between himself and the children as sufficient proof of paternity, saying that since they were living together at the time, any resemblance could be coincidental.

The demand came after Ashabi accused the singer of failing to provide adequate financial support for their children and reportedly threatened to involve the police over their welfare. In screenshots shared on her Instagram page, Ashabi claimed that Portable had given ₦200,000 toward the upkeep of their two children between January and September this year. She also claimed she had paid their school fees for three terms and had been solely responsible for feeding and clothing the children throughout that period. "January to September u gave 2 kids 200k. Have paid for 3 term school fees for them each. Have been feeding them all alone and clothing them," she wrote, adding that she had given him enough time to be responsible and wanted him to fulfil his obligations toward the children going forward.

In another screenshot of an alleged conversation between the two shared by Ashabi, Portable reportedly told her to either take care of the children herself or hand them over to him, telling her: "Give me those kids or take care of them yourself."

The public exchange continued with Ashabi accusing Portable of refusing to be accountable for the children's welfare, writing that while she did not personally care about him, she was not willing to let the matter rest given her respect for people close to him. She also responded to an apparent allegation involving charms made against her, denying the claim outright.

For his part, Portable rejected any suggestion from Ashabi that the two set aside their differences for the sake of the children, telling her she remained "my enemy for life." The singer also made remarks about Ashabi's health and personal life in the voice note during the exchange.

The latest disagreement between the estranged couple has unfolded entirely in public view on social media, with both parties sharing messages and allegations concerning their relationship, the paternity of the children, and questions around their financial upkeep. As of the time of this report, no DNA test result establishing or disproving Portable's paternity claim had been made public by either party.

The dispute adds to a series of public controversies that have followed Portable throughout his career, with the singer known for frequently airing personal and relationship disagreements openly on social media rather than resolving them privately. For now, the underlying paternity question, and the broader dispute over the children's welfare and upkeep, remains unresolved, with both parties continuing to trade claims and counterclaims online.
