Police Uncover Ogun Baby Factory, Rescue Pregnant Women, Children
Ogun police dismantle alleged baby factory, rescue pregnant women and four children, arresting six suspects during operation.
Operatives of the Mowe Division of the Ogun State Police Command have dismantled an alleged baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two pregnant women and four children.
The operation, conducted on Monday, August 24, followed sustained intelligence on suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities allegedly taking place at a facility in Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole.
The police also arrested six suspects in connection with the alleged syndicate. Those arrested were Florence Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and a nurse, Oseni Idaya.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement made available to journalists on Tuesday.
According to Babaseyi, operatives stormed the suspected syndicate’s hideout at about 8am after gathering intelligence on activities allegedly linked to human trafficking and illegal adoption.
During the raid, officers rescued two pregnant women identified as Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who was seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the premises.
The police subsequently carried out follow-up operations based on additional intelligence and traced another alleged victim to a hospital within the Mowe area.
The woman, identified as Blessing Bright Effiong, 26, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy at the hospital on August 20.
The police said the discovery represented a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking and child exploitation in Ogun State.
Authorities are expected to continue investigating the alleged syndicate to establish the circumstances surrounding the victims, the children and the suspected illegal adoption activities.
The rescued victims and children are expected to receive appropriate care and support as investigations continue.
The police command also reiterated its commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks involved in trafficking, exploitation and other forms of organised crime across the state.
