The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold for ₦2 million in Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan, arresting two suspects in connection with the incident.

The suspects include the baby’s mother, identified as Cecilia, and the owner of the health facility where the child was delivered. Police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in the transaction.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday, following a report received on October 15 from Mary Amos, a resident of the Ogunwade area of Ido, who raised concerns over the disappearance of her granddaughter.

According to the police, the child’s mother allegedly implicated the owner of the health facility, a 40-year-old suspect, and another individual, whom she accused of luring her into the arrangement and facilitating the sale of the baby to a person identified as Odunayo.

Investigations indicated that the alleged transaction involved ₦2 million. Cecilia reportedly received ₦1 million, while the two other individuals allegedly involved received ₦500,000 each.

Following the report and subsequent investigations, police operatives rescued the baby girl and arrested the health facility owner, identified as Adeleke. Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend another suspect, identified as Folawewo, and establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged sale.

The police command said investigations were ongoing to ensure that all those suspected of involvement were brought to justice.

It reiterated its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons, urging members of the public to report suspected cases of child trafficking and related offences promptly.

The command also emphasised the importance of public cooperation in identifying and preventing crimes involving children.

The rescued infant remains central to the investigation as authorities work to establish the full circumstances of the incident and determine the roles of the suspects.

No court outcome had been reported as of the time of the police announcement.
