Police Rescue 14-Year-Old Boy, Arrest Suspected Drug Supplier in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has rescued a 14-year-old boy allegedly used to deliver illicit drugs and arrested a 22-year-old suspected supplier in the state.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement, saying operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit intercepted the teenager during a routine patrol on October 26.

According to the police, the boy was allegedly on his way to deliver a granular whitish substance suspected to be methamphetamine, popularly known as Ice, to a customer.

During questioning, the teenager reportedly identified Samuel Ogochukwu, 22, a convicted drug dealer, as the person who sent him on the delivery.

Detectives subsequently traced and arrested Ogochukwu. A search of his shop and residence led to the recovery of 3.5 grammes of suspected methamphetamine, 17 sachets of 100mg tramadol capsules, five sachets of 300mg pregabalin capsules and seven sachets of diazepam.

Other items recovered included 12 Exol tablets, two wraps of a substance known as Yellow Boys and one sachet of Shine Shine Leather.

The police said the suspect told investigators that he received his drug supplies through waybills from Onitsha, Anambra State.

Habib said the rescued boy was being handled in line with juvenile protection procedures and would be reunited with his family after counselling.

The police added that Ogochukwu would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in Bauchi, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for the arrest, noting that the unit had recorded four major drug-related operations within 10 days.

He assured residents that the command would sustain its efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities across the state.
